Committed to making a difference
Grosso Hooper Law is an official sponsor of Wheelchair Basketball Canada and the Wheelchair Basketball Schools Program.
The Wheelchair Basketball Schools Program is designed to educate teachers and students about the sport of wheelchair basketball and encourage youth, with or without a disability, to be physically active. The inclusive program generates awareness for parasport and promotes positive attitudinal change toward disability.
Demos and Sport Wheelchair Rentals
In collaboration with the Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association (OWSA), a demonstration team will visit schools giving students a chance to try wheelchair basketball and connect with athletes in an interactive, inclusive, and informative way. The athlete role models will teach students about the value of goal-setting, the power of sport, and will encourage students of all abilities to embrace healthy, active lifestyles.
Following the school visit, participating schools have the opportunity to have 10-12 sport wheelchairs transported to the school to use for a week. This will provide an opportunity for more students to get to try the sport and experience playing wheelchair basketball.
Currently, these components of the Schools Program are only available to schools based in the Greater Toronto Area.

Grosso Hooper Law at St. Mary's High School 2018
Grosso Hooper Law is grateful to St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton for participating in the Wheelchair Basketball Schools Program.
Shirka Shuriye and Paralympic Gold Medalist Brandon Wagner taught the students about Wheelchair Basketball, followed by demo games that allowed the students to use Sport Wheelchairs to experience the fun for themselves.
Grosso Hooper Law at Banting and Best Public School - 2017
Wheelchair Basketball Canada celebrated the official launch of its Schools Program in front of 350 students at Banting and Best Public School in Scarborough.
We were moved to see the level of excitement and interest shown by the students of Banting and Best Public School at the official launch of the program, and proud of all the participating WBC National Academy athlete ambassadors who so passionately helped generate awareness for para-sport, and promote a positive attitudinal change towards disability.
